I had headcold these two days, had enough of study, hence decided to give myself a rest last night, and watched the Kung Fu Panda.
Interestingly, found this movie quite philosophical, or just me, trying to be philosophical in everything. No wonder Ed can’t stand me ! 😉

‘Son, I think it is time that I should tell you something I should have told you long ago.’ Panda’s father continued, ‘There is no secret ingredient in our noodles.’
‘No secret ingredient? Not even some kind of sauce or something?’
‘No, no secret ingredient. You just have to believe it is special! ‘
With this new realisation, Panda went on to become the great dragon warrior, who loves to eat and still capable of defeating the evil Tai Lung.

How often do we believe we are special? Special in our own way, and accomplish something only we can accomplish, in our own way…
And how often do we believe other people are special too? Just like how the master Shifu and his other followers eventually come to trust Panda is very special, so, he can accomplish only what he can accomplish, in his own way….
戏后,导演金知云 (Kim Jee-woon) 上台让观众问问题。其中一个是,‘身为韩国导演,你为什选拍这种较冷门的西仔片呢?’ 他说:…‘because it is cool…’
他真的做到了! 这部电影真是太cool 了!
This year Toronto International Film Festival, comes and gone. Though I was very busy with TIFF volunteering work, as well as preparation for the wedding, I still managed to squeeze some times to watch seven films !
Out of these seven films, the one I loved the most, is the western movies made by a Korean director, Kim Jee-woon – The Good, The Bad and The Weird. It is also the biggest-budget Korean film ever made in the history so far. The above is its trailer with English subtitles. I also posted another trailer without subtitles (as below) which I like better.
This movie was just fantastic ! Awesome, funny, lots of adrenaline and weird ! I was so hyped up and nearly wanted to jump off the seat and shouted ‘I love this !’. Of course, I could not do this in the cinema. The only way to show my mad love to this film was to squeezed Ed’s hand tightly. Poor Ed ! 😉 I think there were many audiences felt the way because I could hear many ‘wow’, ‘wah’, ‘ahh’ in the cinema.
After the movie, there was a Q & A session with the director. Someone asked, ‘ as Korean director, what make you wanting to make a western genre movie? ‘ Kim Jee-woon answered coolly, ‘ …..because it is cool…’
Went to watch The Darjeeling Limited last night. It was pretty cool and I quite like it.
I like the strong colours, its humor and its musics. But I like the cinematography the most. The most commonly used technique is panning. It is quite interesting to see the camera moving from left to right, for example, from left to right through the train where you see the train cabin one by one from left to right, each with its own story. Sometimes, like showing some still photos from left to right, one by one, then the story enfolds.
However, what I like the most, really, is the cool suitcase !!
During the last waning days of Communist rule in Romania in 1987, Otilia is trying to help her university dorm-mate and best friend, Gabita to get an abortion which is a illegal at that time (from 1966 until 1989). Mr Bebe is sought to perform the illicit termination in a seedy Romanian hotel. However, instead of monetary return, Bebe has something else in his mind. The two women are forced to make a decision in this rough and gritty situation.
Below were the 12 films that I had seen in Toronto International Film Festival.
They might not the best ones or the ones I really wanted to see. It all depended on their screening times and the availability of the tickets. Some of them were bonus or rewards from the volunteering work. I also won’t go to see the films that will be wide released soon. Anyway, except for two or three, most of them turned out to be quite good, but non of them give me a real thrill nor is an absolute ‘must see’ film. I will slowly share with you what I think of each of them for the next few days.
