Oscar Series – (2) My Oscar Night — Dreaming for an Oscar 梦想一座奥斯卡

奥斯卡的晚上，抵达朋友 家时，她穿上晚装迎接我们。

她说，要像奥斯卡般，晚装红地毯。

我们喝着鸡尾酒看颁奖典礼，果然有点奥斯卡的感觉。

她先生, 把提名名单影印出来。每人一张，在颁奖礼正式开始前填好， 要看看谁猜准几项。

看着时，Ed告诉我，他有一位朋友曾拿过奥斯卡奖。 当然不是大奖项，只是小小的。问他，他也说不上来到底是哪一个了。

我听了，说：“我给你十年时间，你可以拿一个奥斯卡给我吗？”

Ed是在电影及动画这行做的。他曾做过几部大片，也见过一些有名的大人物。

我想，应该也会有些可能的。

他嘿嘿带过，说：“你才该拿个奥斯卡给我！”

再说：“你拍过纪录短片，就拿个最佳纪录短片奖吧！”

我发梦时，就有可能。

那晚很开心， 因为与几个朋友看奥斯卡直播很难得。虽然，对一些奖项的结果感到有些意外。

晚上睡觉时，希望发一个得奥斯卡的美梦…….

Oscar Series – (1) My Oscar Afternoon 奥斯卡中午

星期天中午，与几位朋友出来饮茶(即吃点心）。饮茶时，朋友们提到奥斯卡颁奖典礼。决定晚上时一起看。在北美，奥斯卡是大件事。电视有直播。 我很期待，因为喜欢电影。加上，在澳洲因时差，都没看过直播。

在饮茶完，我们去一间我们很喜欢的咖啡店喝咖啡。

这是我的奥斯卡中午…..

On Sunday afternoon, we went to a Chinese restaurant with a few friends for dim sum lunch.

The Oscar would be showing live that night, we wanted to watch it together.

In North America, Oscar is a major event. I was really looking forward to watch it live because never had a chance in Australia due to the different timezones.

After lunch, we went to a coffee shop we like for coffee.

This was my Oscar afternoon…

Stormy Winter

大约两星期前的一天，气象电视台报导：“This is a major event!” (中文翻译该是：大件事 ！）

该算是的。一场暴风雪在那晚降l临加拿大的东南部。多伦多有15公分的积雪，有些地区的积雪高达40到60公分。

之前的晚上，雪已下得很大。醒来时，满地已铺了厚厚的一层雪, 雪还在下着。

这是我从我那第十层 楼见到的雪景

About two weeks ago, one day, the weather network said : “It is a major event !”

That’s right, there was a snowstorm warning in South East of Canada overnight. Toronto had 15cm snowfall and some places had up 40-60cm snowfall.

It was already snowing heavily the night before. When I woke up in the morning, everything was covered by think snow and it was still snowing.

This is the view I saw from my unit at the 10th floor。

驾驶在这种街上是非常困难的。通常的驾驶速度是10到20公里左右。很多车辆会卡在雪路中无法前进。有时，只有出来推车才可继续上路。可幸的是，这里的司机都理解及有耐性。

Many cars could not move properly, and they drove in snail pace, around 10-20km/hour. It was common that cars stucked in the middle of the roads because of the snow. Sometimes, drivers had to come out from the car to push it to run again. Thankfully, the other drivers here were pretty understanding and patient.

 

我们都很兴奋，赶快穿了层层的厚衣，出去拍暴风雪景。

We were quite excited by the snowstorm, quickly wrapped ourselves with layers and layers of clothing, went out to take some photos.

第二天早上，雪已停了，路也已被清理。

The snowstorm stopped the morning after, and the streets had been cleaned.

可是，我们家的窗都结冰了，开不到！！ 没办法，这是在加拿大生活的一部份……

However, I could not open my windows because they were all frozen !! Well, this is part of life in the winter here….

那一个笑容 The Smile

刚搬进这栋公寓时，我们对这公寓的管理员没什么好感。

在加拿大（澳洲也是），租屋者未搬进房子前，有权将房子清楚检查一遍，填好一份有关的报告 （condition report） 交给公寓的代管公司以做存档。

可是，当我们做这份报告时，公寓管理员的态度非常差。不停催促我们， 也不让我们好好检查。

他大声地说：“不用检查啦！都没问题。签名吧！ 我要放工了！” 那天是星期五，才中午三点钟。

Ed一向谨慎。不好好检查，怕有什么坏了，到头来要我们陪钱。

Ed说:”不如, 你先回你的办公室。给多我们十分钟, 就可以了。我们会把报告亲自拿去你的办公室交给你。”

他不肯， 要盯着我们， 继续大小声地催。

Ed被催得火了，与他吵了起来。

两个大男人吵起来，我夹在中间， 什么也做不了。

争执了一轮， 勉强检查好房子。公寓管理员气冲冲地拿了报告走了。

Ed也气冲冲地打电话给他的老板投诉他那不专业的态度。

那公寓管理员看起来是中国人，像是刚移民过来的。英语说得不灵光。

Ed气消了后，知道 如果关系不修好，对我们不利。虽然， 不是我们的错。

因为，如果房子内有什么要修理的， 就难找他帮忙。虽然，这也是他份内的工作。

这个修好关系的责任Ed 交给我做。

他说：“你可以跟他说华语。这个地区没有多少华人，他一定会有亲切感。”

终于，有一天， 我们的厕所漏水， 他来修理。

他也不多说两句， 脸总是黑黑的。

修好后， 就要走了。

我用华语说：“谢谢你！”….” 你是从中国来的吗？”

他马上用英语说：“对不起！我听不懂广东话。” 说时,头只是望着地上。

我再用比较标准的华语说：“抱歉， 我说着国语（中国人称华语为国语）。”

他突然听懂了，头抬起来，脸上闪过一丝在异乡遇同乡的开心笑容， 用华语说：“对啊！我是从中国来的。你呢？”

我微微一笑，说：“我是马来西亚华侨。”

他称赞：“你的国语说得很好啊！”

临踏出门前， 他问：“小姐，如何称呼？”

我说：“叫我雪芬可以了。下雪的雪， 芬芳的芬。”

他说：“雪芬， 很好听的名字。 有什么问题再找我。 下次见！”

关门前， 我再见到那一个笑容….

我的大年初一

年三十晚在Ed父母家过夜。

大年初一早上，我穿了一件红衣，对Ed父母说了一些好意头的话。 过年嘛！Ed父母给了一份红包。

他俩老人家去教堂。我和Ed跑去Caledon。 听说，这里的风景很美。尤其是在秋天枫叶转颜色时。

我没看到枫叶转色， 我看到冰结的瀑布（如下图）和湖泊。 另有一番风味。

中午时，Ed父母煮了港式年初一午餐 – 牛肉粥， 亲自做的萝卜糕，还有芒果年糕及红豆椰糕。

午餐后，我和Ed就回我们自己的家。晚上，吃年三十剩下的菜….

新年可算过了。明天是星期一。在外国，一切照常。

我的团圆饭 My New Year Eve Dinner

在年三十晚，我和Ed回他父母家吃团圆饭。

Ed在加拿大长大，性格很洋化，农历新年没洋历新年重要。我则相反。要不是我跟他说回家吃饭很重要，他可能就免了。

他们一家从香港移民来加拿大已有三十多年。刚来时，语言不通， 生活艰苦。那时，华人很少，华人的物品当然也少。这么多年可能也没有好好庆祝过农历新年，加上这里也没有公共假期。传统要保也难。

所以，这里不讲究 – 没要把家里佈置得红东东，没要穿红的， 没什么都要新的。 当然没新年歌之类的。

Ed在美国工作近十年，从来没回加拿大过农历新年。我则刚到这里，是他家里的新宠 – 华人， 懂得读写讲中文，懂得一点点的传统。 虽然，我在澳十二年，家人一直在马。我也每年都回马过年。想起来，我可能比他们老人家还传统。

因为难得Ed和我都在多伦多，加上碰巧是周末，Ed不用上班。他俩老人家煮了一满桌的好菜，有龙虾，冬菇江鱼翅发菜，清蒸鱼，白切鸡，芥兰菜，及冬菇鸡汤。吃了一整晚。 我与他父母谈谈马来西亚华人如何过年。Ed什么也不懂，只是在吃！

我虽然想家，想念马来西亚的新年气氛 可这里也算有个丰富及像家的团圆饭。

这里的卫星电台也有播贺岁节目。

晚上，给妈妈摇了个电话。 电话线很忙，很难才打到。 马来西亚已是年初一。 没说到几句，妈听不清楚，因为一家大小已在“疯狂”地及很吵地打麻将！

放下电话，带着那一点点的新年感觉入睡．．．

我和加国首相向你拜年

先祝大家新年快乐及万事如意！！！

昨天，觉得这里一点新年气氛也没有。于是，跑去给了加币八元进场被称为加拿大最大型的农历新年庆典。可是，可真是失望得不得了！！只有几十个摊位， 有些卖的根本与新年没关。

演出节目也很糟糕。有一个功夫表演还要用dance mix的新年歌！！我没看完，不知后来的如何。但有个节目结幕时摆的姿势还可以，赶快拍下 (如上).

最意外的该是- 加国首相的出现！惊讶他会出席！ Ed说，大选可能要来了。原来如此。

还有的是，为一个纪录片的首映开幕。纪录片是有关这个首相前阵子正式公开向加国的华裔道歉。因为，加国曾向华裔施加很重的人头税， 及曾通过排华政策。在这个新年，对加国的华裔该是很有意义。

我赶快与首相拍张照留念！ 我在马及澳住了那么多年也没见过首相。

最后，让我和加国首相向大家拜个年- 祝大家金猪年行好运！！

情人节三不买 – 我赞成！

听朋友说，在香港，有人在网上，鼓吹“三不买” – 在情人节，不买礼物，不买鲜花，不买晚餐。 问题主要来自商家在情人节当天故意把价格调得特高。害得男的钱包很惨。虽然，这根本不能衡量对一个人的感情。可是，有些女的，觉得当天的表现很重要。

唉！多得商家及传播界的努力。把爱情这样来”扭转”。希望大家别陷入这个圈套。

三不买 – 我赞成！！

希望别误会，我不是不站在女方。只是觉得这样花钱，有些浪费， 也“益”了商家。礼物，鲜花，晚餐，不一定要在情人节当天买。

突然，有个小小建议 – 不如，用那些钱一起去报名学些两人都有兴趣的东西。学的不一定要太认真，短程的就很好。如：画画，艺术或电影欣赏，跳舞，等等。一起学一些东西两三个月，可能更能增进感情。

可是，我也明白，男的有时会比较懒学东西，除了电脑或游戏。

总之，先“益”自己，别“益”商家！！

On the day I went to The Beach, I saw this Vespa shop. Vespa is quite a trend here.

I took a couple of photos. Ed said they looked pretty ok and this one looked like a couple.

So I think it is appropriate to use this photo to wish everyone a

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY !!!

那天去 The Beach 时，见到这间Vespa店。Vespa 在这蛮流行的。我拍了几张照片。Ed看了说还蛮好看的。他觉得上面这张像一对情侶。

Thoughts on Valentine’s day 情人节随想

Although I may not have much experiences in relationship, I realised some of my friends are happier and less affected by the unpredictable nature of love than others. Just some thoughts to share : –

In this Valentine’s Day,

• May I wish all those who have their second half, be even more appreciative to them. Wishing you a loving, meaningful, respectful, long lasting and happy relationship.

• For those who still have not had or found one, don’t worry, don’t compare. Be truly happy yourself, the right one will come to you.

• Wishing those whom you love still do not know yet, be courageous to share your feelings with them. If they like you too, you deserve it，all the best for the new chapter of life. If it is not the case, it is ok, probably is their losts too. Crying hard maybe one way to vent out your feelings. After that, wishing you step forward and start a new and happy life.

• For those who have broken up recently, please don’t stay home by yourself and feel pitiful. Please have a good meal with your family and friends. It is understandable to feel sad but don’t neglect your health and your soul. Love yourself, start afresh. Sometimes, times can really take away pain. There are still many people who really love you and care about you.

Last but not least, hope we would not forget to tell your family and friends how much you love them too.

This is for my family and friends, I miss everyone of you and I love you all !!

我没有丰富的感情经验。却发觉有些朋友在感情来去中比一些人快乐。

有些感想，希望分享。

在情人节这天，

• 深祝有了另一半的，好好珍惜对方。祝你有一个互敬互爱，快乐及持久的感情。 (注：不太喜欢用爱情两字，觉得感情两字比较会持久及实在）

• 还没有另一半的，别担心，别与人比较。经营好自己的快乐，哪怕没人追。

• 愿有暗恋人的，痛痛快快说了出来就好了。如果，人家也喜欢的话，那很值得开心。人家不要的话，没法强求，也是他的损失。可以大哭一场来发泄。哭过了就好好过活。

• 愿失恋的人，别一个人在情人节躲在家里偷偷地哭。与好友家人吃一餐好的。伤心难怪，别伤了身子。好好振作，好好爱自己。时间有时真的可以冲淡一切。你身边还有许多人爱你。

最后，希望大家也别忘了珍惜家人好友！！

这是给我亲爱的家人朋友， 我很想念你们，也很爱你们 ！！

Distillery

星期六，天气还好，与Ed去著名的Distillery Distric 走走。它是国家历史性地区，现已变了艺术，文化及娱乐的中心。

一对兄弟在英国王朝时期建立了这蒸馏酒厂。 它那四十多座的建筑是当今北美最大及保存得最齐全的维多利亚式工业建筑物。最近几年，它那独特的条件得到许多艺术家，画廊，餐馆，咖啡店，零售商人的青昧。现在是多伦多的热点区。

On Saturday, we visited the famous Distillery District in Toronto. It is a national historic site that has transformed into a centre for arts, culture and entertainment.

The Distilery was founded by two brothers-in-Law during the British Empire period. Its forty plus buildings consitute the largest and best preserved collection of Victorian Industrial Architecture in North America. For the past few years, this unique landmark has attracted many artists, galleries, restaurants, cafes and retailers. It is now one of the hotspots to visit and live in Toronto.

 

走在其中，想象着当时工人的生活。不知他们的生活艰苦吗？

Walking in the district, imagining the lives of the workers at that time. Were their lives difficult ?

Distillery District内有蛮酷的咖啡店，艺术工作场所及艺术品，店铺等等。可惜，摄影是不允许的。我只有在店前拍拍。

那天好好。

There are many cool cafe, artist studios, shops etc. However, it is not allowed to take photos inside of the studios or shops. I could only take photos at the front.

I had a good day.

Destiny

虽下着雪，还是与Stephanie去了College St。这是一条旧意大利街. 大部份的旧意大利商店都被淘汰了, 取代的是一些新潮怀旧店。

在一间装饰雅典的咖啡店喝了一杯咖啡, 同时在怀念我爱的墨尔本生活. 加拿大现有的都是Starbucks, 或是Second Cup 的咖啡链锁店。

心满意足后，与Stephanie乘搭公共巴士回家。 途上,一路欣赏迷人的雪景,一路想着来到加拿大的过程。 赞叹雪景的美丽, 也惊叹人生的不可预知.。转头告诉Stephanie, 我本来打算来加拿大读大学. 阴差阳错下, 去了澳洲。没想到, 十二年后，遇到了Edwin, 竟跟着他来到了加拿大。

Stephanie 听了说: “ So, your destiny is not Edwin, your destiny is Canada”。

我们笑了起来。

Snowy Winter

12月28日，终於下雪了。这是多伦多这个冬天的第一场雪。早上醒来，见到满地的雪，高兴得不得了。在Ed父母家前拍了这张照片。

在多伦多，人们一定要有一把括雪的用具在车里。开车前，必须先括车窗上的雪。

On 28th Dec 2006, it was my first day with snow on the ground. I woke up and saw everything was white. It was the first snowfall in Toronto this winter. Excited, I took this photo in front of Ed’s parents’ house.

I learnt something new too – Toronto drivers must keep an ice scraper in their cars to sweep the snow off the car’s window before they can go.

几个星期后，我已经没之前般兴奋。可是，还是喜欢那白白漂亮的雪。

为了市民的安全及交通的顺畅，每天清晨，多伦多的市政府会派有个大铲子的卡车， 去清理主要街道的雪。可是，小街就没这个福份。人们要非常小心。滑倒及车祸容易发生。

A couples of weeks later, the snow is already no longer excites me as much, although it is still very pretty. And cold.

When the streets are covered, the city council will send trucks with a shovel in front to to clean most of the streets so the cars can get through without getting stuck. On a small residential street like this, we have to drive and walk very carefully. It can be extremely icy and slippery, for people and cars.
